Johnston Audio takes delivery of Australia's largest D&B J Line system

06-May-2008

Johnston Audio has taken delivery of the largest D&B J Line system in Australia . After looking into the various options available and demoing quite a few systems it was decided that the J Line was the best choice.

The D&B J Line system is one of the best, if not the best, sounding line array system available on the market today. Johnston Audio's aspiration has always been to supply the best audio systems in Australia and the addition of J Line to its inventory delivers on this objective.

Our partnership with D&B will certainly keep us at the forefront of the audio industry in Australia . We have discovered the passion shared amongst the D&B users and owners around the world and that has vindicated our decision to invest in J Line.

This is by far the largest single purchase we have made in new audio equipment and we are looking forward to future and all the happy engineers once they have used this new system. The system is simply that good.

The D&B J Line system provides a new level of level of system control and processing power and has rapidly become the preferred speaker system for the world's leading audio engineers. Many of the world's leading touring artists including Coldplay, Oasis, Neil Young and The Who to name but a few, have made the switch to D&B J Line.

Bruce Johnston is currently on the road with Oasis and is another convert to D&B J Line. Bruce says “It is miles ahead of the V-Dosc and any other system out there. Simply the best sounding system I have ever mixed on. Every day we turn it on and it sounds exactly the same - no need to change a thing! We just finished some dates in Mexico with a V-Dosc system and went back to the US and back to the J system. Unbelievable difference in clarity! Everyone from the riggers to the truck drivers has mentioned the system's sound!”

With our commitment to the D&B J Line system in Australia we are able to network with the other J Line partners around the world including Eighth Day Sound (USA), Wigwam (UK) and MSI ( Japan ) and therefore provide a worldwide supply chain for D&B J Line.

Our initial purchase of D&B J Line included 48 x J Line cabinets (a combination of J8 and J12), 16 x J-Subs and 16 B2 subs. We also have 24 x M2 wedges with more on the way. A shipment of C4 and C7 systems is due shortly and by mid July we expect to add another 12 J Line cabinets to bring our inventory total to 60.

The D&B J Line system debuted in Australia on the recent John Mellencamp & Sheryl Crow tour and has been booked for Australian tours for Coldplay (February) and The Who (March).

We are looking forward to an exciting future with the J Line system!

Product Information

J12 loudspeaker
The J12 is a 3-way design housing 2 x 12" LF drivers, one hornloaded 10" MF driver and two 1.4" exit HF compression drivers with 3" voicecoils mounted to a dedicated wave-shaping device. The mechanical and acoustical design enables flown vertical columns of up to twenty-four loudspeakers to be suspended using vertical splay angles between them of 0° to 7° with a 1° resolution. The cylindrical wave segments produced couple coherently in the vertical plane. Due to the dipolar arrangement of the neodymium LF drivers the exceptional 120° horizontal constant directivity dispersion control is nominally maintained down to 250 Hz. The J12 is acoustically and mechanically compatible to the J8 loudspeaker. It can be used in columns of purely J12 loudspeakers or combined with J8s and / or with J-SUBs. The J12 cabinet is constructed from marine plywood and has an impact and weather protected PCP (Polyurea Cabinet Protection) finish. The front of the loudspeaker cabinet is protected by a rigid metal grill, the side and rear panels incorporate four handles, and two EP5 or NL8 connectors wired in parallel are also mounted at the rear.

Amplifiers
The J12 can only be driven by d&b's D12 dual channel amplifier configured for the J12. More detailed information on specific loudspeaker setups with the D12 amplifier is available either in the relevant loudspeaker or D12 manual.

J8 loudspeaker
The J8 is a 3-way design housing 2 x 12" LF drivers, one hornloaded 10" MF driver and two 1.4" exit HF compression drivers with 3" voicecoils mounted to a dedicated wave-shaping device. The mechanical and acoustical design enables flown vertical columns of up to twenty-four loudspeakers to be suspended using vertical splay angles between them of 0° to 7° with a 1° resolution. The cylindrical wave segments produced couple coherently in the vertical plane. Due to the dipolar arrangement of the neodymium LF drivers the exceptional 80° horizontal constant directivity dispersion control is nominally maintained down to 250 Hz.

The J8 is acoustically and mechanically compatible with the J12 loudspeaker. It can be used in columns of purely J8 loudspeakers or combined with J12s and / or with J-SUBs. The J8 cabinet is constructed from marine plywood and has an impact and weather protected PCP (Polyurea Cabinet Protection) finish. The front of the loudspeaker cabinet is protected by a rigid metal grill, the side and rear panels incorporate four handles, and two EP5 or NL8 connectors wired in parallel are also mounted at the rear.

Amplifiers
The J8 can only be driven by d&b's D12 dual channel amplifier configured for the J8. More detailed information on specific loudspeaker setups with the D12 amplifier is available either in the relevant loudspeaker or D12 manual.

J subwoofer

The J-SUB is an actively driven 2-way bass-reflex design housing three long excursion neodymium 18" drivers, two drivers face to the front and one driver to the rear. The cardioid dispersion pattern resulting from this approach avoids unwanted energy behind the system that greatly reduces the reverberant field at low frequencies and provides the greatest accuracy of low frequency reproduction. J-SUB cabinets can be used to supplement J8 and J12 loudspeakers in various combinations, ground stacked or flown, either integrated on top of a J8 / J12 array or as a separate column.

The J-SUB cabinet is constructed from marine plywood and has an impact and weather protected PCP (Polyurea Cabinet Protection) finish. The front and rear of the loudspeaker cabinet are protected by a rigid metal grill and the side panels incorporate eight handles. Four 100 mm wheels and one EP5 or NL8 connector are mounted at the rear.

Amplifiers
The J-SUB can only be driven by d&b's D12 dual channel amplifier configured for the J-SUB. More detailed information on specific loudspeaker setups with the D12 amplifier is available either in the relevant loudspeaker or D12 manual.
